pine needles

Green Compost Items

Grass Clippings
Coffee Grounds
Fruit peels
Vegetables Scrap/peels
living plant materials

4 parts brown 
1 part green

Temp between 110F - 160F  is good
below 100 need more air and water
composting complete - earthy odor, dark brown and crumbly 

Problems:
1. flies and bugs -
caused by: exposed food or exposed green 
fix - add brown material on top

2. if compost isn't heating up
cause too wet or too dry
fix- add more brown material
if compost too dry add more green material and spray with spray water 

3. rotten egg smell - not enough of oxygen
material too wet and too compact
add more brown material &transfer

4. Ammonia smell = too much green or matted material

5. If compost taking too long = cut material into smaller pieces
