Chef Stephvnietea's Easy Sweet & Sour Sauce recipe
Chef Stephvnietea's Sweet and Sour Sauce recipe is a simple yet flavorful sauce that is easy to make at home.
Ingredients
- Sauce:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1/4 cup apricot or peach preserves (optional, for a sweeter taste)
- 2 1/2 tbsp sugar (can be adjusted to taste)
- 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
- Slurry:
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine water, vinegar, apricot preserves (if using), soy sauce, and sugar.
- Mix well and turn on the heat, bringing the sauce to a boil.
- Ensure the sugar is completely dissolved, then bring the sauce down to a simmer.
- In a separate small bowl, combine cornstarch and water for the slurry, mixing well to avoid clumps.
- Pour the slurry into the simmering saucepan and stir immediately to thicken the sauce.
- Serve cool or warm, or store in an airtight container for up to a week in the fridge.
Note: This recipe can be adapted to your preference. If you prefer a less sweet sauce, you can reduce the amount of preserves or sugar. You can also experiment with other types of vinegar like rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar. To achieve a deeper red color, a few drops of food coloring can be added.
